Our beautiful studio boasts a team of highly experienced and motivated Pilates, Aerian Pilates, Yoga and GYROTONIC® teachers, who tailor their classes and private lessons to each student's individual needs and levels of experience, to help develop strength, flexibility and balance of both the body and the mind.  

 

Pilates  - an introduction

The philosophy behind Pilates (Joseph Pilates) is to retrain the mind and therefore the body, to use muscles more efficiently and save energy. One of the most overlooked areas to strengthen for athletes is their “core”. There are several layers of abdominal muscles all of which are targeted by Pilates. The buttock muscles are also very important in stabilizing the pelvis particularly for running and cycling activities. Using your body’s core generates the real power in your push off, pedal stroke or pull through the water. Much of your energy comes from this area. By transferring that core energy to your extremities, you’ll get more power out of your stroke or stride. Athletes are generally strong through their larger muscle groups and quite weak through the smaller stabilizing muscles. Just doing sit-ups and squats won’t strengthen these muscles. The larger muscles will continue to get stronger and the weaker muscles will continue to get weaker. A consistent Pilates routine will ensure that proper stretching becomes an integral part of your training program. The core muscle groups will work synergistically to make the spine more supple. The tight muscles will lengthen and promote healthy blood circulation and lubrication to your joints. This will not only improve your range of motion but also your cardiovascular health as the deep breathing promotes healthy circulation throughout the whole body and your spine will also become more supple and pliable.

Pilates is practiced on a mat (Matwork) or with specific Pilates apparatus. The Pilates Loft Thônex - Geneva proposes a large choice of Pilates apparatus (Reformer, Cadillac, Ladder Barrel, Wall-unit, Wunda-chair, Neck stretcher) to offer tailored classes to fulfill the highest expectations of their clients.

 

Pilates Classes

The Pilates Loft Thônex - Geneva offers several formulas, to meet everyone’s preferences and budget: 

Private classes (60 minutes) allow the use of all apparatus. The advantages are a personal coaching permitting your evolution on your own rhythm and intensity.  Private classes are equally a great approach for people with health issues, such as lumbar pain or orthopedic injuries, which can receive specific attention with targeted exercises. 

Semi-private (duo) Pilates classes are ideal for all people that wish to share their Geneva Pilates class with a friend or family and benefit from increased attention at a lower cost. 

The collective Pilates classes (Quartet) unite quality teaching with group dynamics. Group-classes of maximum 4 people work on Wall-unit, Reformer, Wunda-Chair or/and perform Matwork.

The collective Pilates classes (Matwork) use accessories such as Swiss-ball, elastic bands and spine correctors to add difficulty to certain exercises and target specific muscle groups. Groups accepte maximum 7 people, to warant efficient work, in a safe and controlled environment.

Aerial Pilates

Aerial Pilates is a suspension training technique allowing students to perform Classical and Contemporary Pilates exercises from the Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, and Ladder Barrel – all in the hammock! These classes take core-strengthening and targeted muscle conditioning to new heights. Explore the amazing benefits that can be derived by the Pilates Method in the hammock in combination with no-Compression Inversions. No prior Pilates experience is necessary. We will incorporate the foundation and the principles of Pilates in the Aerial Pilates class.

This class is a full-body workout with traditional strength and toning moves that use the Hammock for resistance or support. These classes will help you build muscle, strength and endurance and create a lean, strong and toned body. Using your own body weight and gravity, you are in total control of how far to push yourself. Prepare to be challenged to burn calories, build strength, increase endurance and have fun doing it.

If you want a low impact, all over body workout that will define the body and make you stronger, this is the class for you!

Hatha yoga and meditation

What is Hatha Yoga?

Hatha yoga was originally considered to be a preparation for spiritual yoga practice as control over the physical body is believed to assist in developing control over the mind and spirit.

Through the practice of Hatha yoga, the individual attempts to balance the mind, body and chakras through specific asanas and controlled, meditative breathing that complements the physical movements of the body. Hatha yoga has become popular as an exercise that many Westerners participate in for the physical benefits alone, without the pairing of a spiritual practice. 

The Pilates Loft Thônex - Geneva offers group classes every wednesday 7.15pm to 8.30pm. 

Gyrotonics

The Gyrotonic Method is an original and unique movement method that addresses the entire person, opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion, and improving strength and movement efficiency. The Gyrotonic Method is practiced in group or private classes under the instruction of a qualified Gyrotonic Trainer. With Gyrotonic exercises, each movement flows into the next, allowing the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. These carefully crafted sequences create balance, efficiency, strength and flexibility.
